Investigative Due Diligence

Intelligence that digs deep, tailored to you

Every critical decision deserves a tailored investigation

Investigative Due Diligence represents the deepest and most personalised level of counterparty analysis. Unlike standard due diligence, which focuses on corporate profiles, structures and generic red flags, this activity is designed to answer specific questions arising from concrete concerns about parties, transactions or strategic relationships. It is a form of proactive investigation, created specifically for the client and shaped around their actual interests and needs.

Global Risk Intelligence conducts Investigative Due Diligence on Italian and international subjects, in civil, criminal, financial or geopolitical contexts. The aim is not simply to know who a partner or counterpart is: it is to understand whether they can truly be trusted, and to identify hidden dynamics, specific risks or non-compliant behaviour that could compromise an investment, partnership, negotiation or legal position.

Each assignment is treated as a unique project, combining technology, public sources, resources on the ground and confidential investigative activities. The scope may cover an individual, a company, an advisor, a fund, a public administration or an entire supply chain. The focus? It is agreed with the client: it may be corruption, unfair competition, suspected fraud, abuse of power, an opaque triangular corporate arrangement, a conflict of interest, a hidden criminal background, or a combination of these elements.

What we can investigate

  • Corrupt behaviour and recurring unlawful practices
  • Conflicts of interest between executives, shareholders and counterparties
  • Opaque corporate networks and undeclared beneficial owners
  • Ties to sanctioned parties, PEPs, criminal contexts or politicised circles
  • Accounting fraud, false attestations, asset manipulation
  • Unfair competition, misappropriation
  • Hidden disputes, ongoing lawsuits, criminal proceedings
  • Market manipulation, insider trading, abuses in regulated sectors

Case Study: Investigative Due Diligence

An institutional investor engaged us to investigate a foreign fund that had proposed a partnership in the infrastructure sector. Preliminary checks had revealed no formal red flags. Our investigation revealed that behind the corporate vehicle was a group linked to sanctioned parties and involved in investigations into systemic corruption in a third country. The client ended the negotiations, avoiding an enormous reputational and legal risk.
